The EMerge Alliance is an open industry association leading the rapid adoption of safe DC power distribution and use in buildings to promote more efficient and sustainable facilities. Three Box teamed joined the DC power movement in 2008 to support the launch and ongoing promotion of the Alliance. Conferences and events play an important role in the Alliance’s recruitment and engagement of members, especially the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, the world’s largest tradeshow dedicated to green building.
When the Greenbuild conference headed to New Orleans in 2014, the EMerge Alliance and Three Box saw a huge opportunity to promote this alternative approach to power in a city that truly felt the effects of an unreliable grid after Hurricane Katrina. The Alliance worked with Greenbuild organizers to set up the conference’s first-ever “Net Zero Zone” that could run exclusively on solar panels. The Three Box team designed a plan to help promote and highlight this truly innovative activation.
Greenbuild provided a unique opportunity for EMerge Alliance to share its vision for the future of building power with several key audiences at once. The Three Box team pitched media, staffed the tradeshow booth, coordinated onsite media interviews and posted in real-time to social media. We also worked with Greenbuild conference organizers to announce the launch of the first-ever “net-zero” exhibit space and host a Greenbuild Unplugged event. The EMerge Alliance Net Zero Zone powered all video, audio and lighting at 11 exhibits using DC power through solar panels – demonstrating a truly “unplugged,” sustainable power solution.
Three Box facilitated access to important target audiences for EMerge Alliance leading up to, during and following Greenbuild through both traditional media and social media channels. Key communications results included:
- Onsite media interviews with 13 industry publications, including Today’s Facility Manager, Treehugger.com/Discovery Channel, US Glass Magazine, Retrofit Magazine, Building Operating Management, BUILDINGS Magazine and Energy Priorities
- Video segment with EMerge Alliance’s “Austin DC Powers” on Greenbuild TV
- A nearly 670-percent increase in Twitter engagement, utilizing #NetZeroZone, #DCPowerBaby and #Greenbuild, as well as tagging key influencers like @Greenbuild, @RetrofitMag and @USGBC
- Increased Alliance and member visibility at the industry’s largest international green building tradeshow
